History of the Adangapurathu Family - Part IV
|
Conclusion
This history that has been recounted has many other episodes and stories which have been omitted for sake of brevity.
Over time, links will be provided that will take an interested reader to know more about what might seem
like a lot of unfamiliar names. However these are of real people, families, events and places and it would be
a disservice to AG Joseph Panicker if one shortened it in a way
that undermined its relevance and substance. When he wrote the book,
AG Joseph Panicker wished it to remain as something for private circulation - and so it has over the years.
In an attempt at objectivity one cannot help but note that the history of this family - at least based on anecdotal
information and actual documentation - seems to be one that emphasized the accumulation of wealth and increasing the
stature of
the family in society. There are recorded instances of contributions in the areas of charity, community and religion
but there seems to be a remarkable lack of effort or encouragement to achieve this in the sciences or the arts.
Whether any of it was documented and lost is not known, termites may have gotten to the Olla in the
"Arra" at the ancestral house which
may have made mention of contributions in these areas - or again, this may be the whole psyche of a community who
felt that the attainment
of wealth and status was of paramount importance. However, the Adangapurathu family does have a long and illustrious
history and as AG Joseph Panicker's children have learned over
the years, one's antecedents grows in importance over time and becomes of increasing relevance as the years go by.
There is little doubt that
AG Joseph Panicker would have been pleased, gratified - and more
than a little
surprised - to see the interest and dedication that his children have displayed in putting together this website
Much of this information would have been lost if he had not related these stories to his, then somewhat disinterested,
children and if he had not taken the time to write his book "Adangapurathu Kudumbhom". At a time when geneaology
is of interest to many in the West - and especially in the US - the Adangapurathu family is fortunate to have this
information readily at hand. Perhaps this window into the family's history and roots and other information on this website
will provide a better insight into who and where we are from, for future generations.
